After much apprehension, I sent my out of warranty Raymarine autopilot to factory serviice. After reading horror stories of poor service, slow service and high prices; I expected the worse. Raymarine received my unit on a Friday afternoon. I received my unit back on the following Wednesday afternoon. The computer board was replaced .....no charge. I was astounded and relieved.

The new owners in my opinion are doing a great job of taking care of their customers. Ordinarily I would not take the time to write a glowing report of any vendor but I thought considering what Raymarine went through it needed to be said that they are back on track.

The port output was blown, probably one of the output transistors shorted. The wheel turned to starboard but not port , reversing the motor wires gave the opposite effect.

I just sent the unit in by UPS . Raymarine paid the shipping back, no charge. It was impressive.

I had a c70 display go bad last summer, since it was obsolete, the servicing dealer opted to send it back to raymarine. Contrary to may posts on this site, I did not get an unreasonable charge. I got the unit back in less than 2 weeks ( it was the end of the season, and I did not pick it up right away). I am almost convinced that I got a new display. Cost to me was $ 135. I really don't think that was such a bad deal. Unit is working flawlessly.

I concur with your assessment of Raymarine customer service being good. I had a linear drive go out on my way back from the Bahama's this spring. I shipped the unit in as soon as I hit the States, they repaired it and it was back on the boat within 8 days including shipping time. The unit was out of warranty, so I had to pay the set price, but it was still only a third of new cost and the guts of the unit are virtually new.

Neal,

Several years ago our out-of-warranty Raymarine Autopilot stopped working. I worked for about 30 minutes on the phone with Raymarine support to diagnose the problem on a Friday afternoon. It was determined that the core pack needed to be returned to the factory for repair. I removed in on a Sunday, Fedexed it to Raymarine on a Monday, received it back that Thursday, installed it on Friday...

Not only had they fixed the problem, they upgraded the software. They paid the return shipping and did the repairs at no charge.

My experience with Raymarine support has always been professional, fair, fast, and top notch.

Great to hear

I have always had ray electronics on 2 Hunters and when ever I needed help they came to bat hitting a home run for me and most times helping to setup or activat my equipment over the phone.
They did update and check my older chartplotter way back and than in 2008 repaired my auto for me and been working great.
I have question for Hutch 5151,some time in future I thinking up grading to a Linear drive unit and a friend has a bad one that he said can't get parts for the clutch or out dated no longer parts available,it is the Linear 1 model so what linear did you have repaired by Ray.
My auto works fine now but for ruffer sea's I think I need the linear unit up grade in my H-36.

Outstanding service

Last year I had a minor lightning strike. Blew the board on the auto pilot. Sent it to Raymarine, and had it back in just a few days. Sometimes their tech support isn't what it should be. Depends on which guy you talk to there. Some are very good, and some are not.
