Dolores

I have just become the proud owner of my first Hunter Sailboat 27' 1981. The boat is in good condition other than cosmetics and a small problem with engine. The hatches and ports need to be rep[laced. Can any one give me any information on replacement hatches and ports. Company? webaddress or phone?? I live in south eastern North Carolina. Also, where is a good place to get Yanmar parts for the engine??

You might check the archives. There has been a lot of conversation about this in the past couple of months.

P`ortlights for H27

Hi Dolores, You can get replacement hatches from Pompanette Inc in New Hampshire. Go to http://www.pompanette.com/bomar and look at the section on Gray Series Portlights, Rectangular. (Gray used to make the ports but they got bought out by Bomar, who got bought by Pompanette) You can get this stuff (mailorder) through Pompanette or you can go to West Marine or BoatUS. Steve

GRAY -BOMAR PORTS AND HATCHES

BONA FORTUNA ON YOU HUNTER 27' YOUR PORT HOLES ARE GRAY IN TAMPA BAY AREA AND SO ARE YOUR HATCHES, BUT YOU MUST GO THROUGH A DEALER SUCH AS JOHNSON SAILS KNOWN AS J.S.I. ON GANDY ROAD ST. PETE. TO PURHASE THEM, YOU CAN BUY THE WHOLE PORT OR DETAILS NEEDED, i HAVE PURCHASED BOTH FROM THEM, INCLUDING HARDWARE, THE HATCHES ARE OBSOLETE, AND YOU CAN BUY A LEMAR OR A BOMAR HATCH 21'X21' THAT WILL FIT, OR YOU CAN REPAIR THEM: IF THE SLOTS ON THE EARS THAT LOCK DOWN THE HATCH, GET SOME 3/16" THK X 5" SQUARE ALUM. PLATE DRAW A DIAGONAL LINE FROM TWO CORNERS, EACH IN BOTH DIRECTIONS TO FORM AN "X" IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE THEN MEASURE 3/4" FROM CENTER ALONG 2 LINES OPPOSITE EACH OTHER DRILL A 3/8" HOLE IN THESE TWO PTS, AND WITH A ROUND FILE REMOVE THE MAT'L BETWEEN THE 2 HOLES TO FORM A SLOT, SAW THE PLATE IN HALF, ALONG THE DIAGONAL LINE PEREPENDICULAR TO THE SLOT, NOW YOU HAVE 2 EARS, ADD A 3" RADIUS, TO THE ADJASENT CORNER AND DRILL 3 HOLES #8 OR #10 TO MOUNT THE EARS TO THE BROKEN EARS, IF YOUR LEXAN IF YOUR LEXAN IS LEAKING OR CRACKED, RATHER THAN REPLACING IT BEING IT'S SO THIN, I ALWAYS THOUGHT I'D PUT MY FOOT THROUGH IT ONE DAY, i BOUGHT SOME 1/2" THK SMOKED PLEXI, CUT IT TO COVER THE ENTIRE HATCH FRAME, BOLTED ON WITH 4 #10'S THROUGH THE FROME, THEN FROM THE INSIDE USING A #8 MINOR DIA. DRILL BIT SET FOR 1/2" DEPTH DRILLED 16 HOLE 4 PER SIDE, REMOVED THE ORIG. 4 BOLTS, APPLIED SILICON TO THE FRAME SURFACE, REINSTALLED THE 4 BOLTS, WIPED THE EXCESS GUE, AND FROM THE INSIDE INSTALLED THE 16 1/2 LENGTH SHEETMETAL PAN SCREWS i HOPE THIS HELPS YOU A LITTLE, GOOD LUCK

Engine Parts

You haven't told us what engine you have. If Renault call 281-339-1465, "Renault Marine Diesel", in Texas.

hatches &Ports part two

The dimension I've given you 21" s/b 22" to the outside base frame flange, but these hatches aren't cheap $650.00 I'd repair what I had, or find a salvage yard with a good used one, if it's hardware you need, gray/bomar or regular stock items can replace what you have, and the two types of repairs i've mentioned in part one, should fix most problems, good luck
