My hatches and portights are wearing down (some cracking and breaking) and require repair/replacing. Does anyone have suggestions on where to find replacement parts or full piece replacements for a 1980 Hunter 27? Thanks

Sailnet has replacement (7X15) lens for the ports, I am not sure if they have the whole thing. The hatch behind the mast is available (I am told, and one of the same size is in the catalog) from West Marine. The front hatch (and the other hatch and ports)is available from Pompenette but I believe it requires a bit of hole enlagement. Check the archives as there is a photo display of installing the front hatch. Also you will find other messages concerning this operation from those that have done it. Andy

Ned Andy is right, and there is some information in the archives on this. I bought our portlights from Sailnet and they fit fine (although I don't like the style of them very much). We went with aluminum frames on the two hatches, but you may be able to find them in black plastic. We bought them from ThriftyMariner or something like that online, but I think SailNet has them and West Marine too. Check the archives for part numbers. The smaller one is almost an off the shelf fit. The larger forward hatch requires some significant cutting in to the deck. Watch that the screw holes on the large hatch are solid enough and far enough back from the edge of the hole. Our first try, one or two screw holes for the new hatch were too close to the edge of the cutout and just cracked the deck material. But two jars of Marine Tex later, they're in and all is well. These are available from Pompanette in Florida (now owns Grey). I understand that through some of the internet suppliers, they may discount the list price from Pompanette. Good luck. I ordered the port lights Chuck mentioned from Sailnet, which had a good price. Much to our surprise, the ports were not very difficult to install. The trapezoidal hatch is another story!

I just installed a Lewmar Ocean 60 hatch on my '83 H25. It has an out-turned (flat) flange that bolted directly onto the opening without ANY modifications. I just squeezed a bead of 4200 around the opening and set the hatch loosely for the night. The next day I tightened down the screws, and voila!, no leaks. No muss, no fuss, no hacking out the opening, and I have a hatch that will last a lifetime, not a plastic cheapie that will cause more problems in the future. It was pricey ($550), but worth it to me just to keep from chopping up my boat.
