I was just wondering if anyone else has an aluminum single piece hatchboard. I bought my 74,catalina 22, used from a "donate your boat" place. I do have a piece so that if I didn't want the large piece to cover my opening and wanted fresh air inside, I could put that in. So far, I have not seen any other boats with this single aluminum piece. Everyone else seems to have regular three piece hatchboards. Was this an option from Catalina or anyone know if it was offered by someone else? It is a piece that fits in very well. Not like a piece of aluminum that was just cut and it fits. The ends on all four sides are kinda rolled up. So it's definetly a manufactured piece to fit in there. It even has a place thats raised on the top side to put a latch for locking it to the sliding hatch. Just wondering if anyone else has one or knows of anyone who has one....

Just speculation...

but teak hatchboards could have been an option that the original owner chose not to purchase. Or, the single sluminum hatch cover was a cheap replacement for worn out wooden boards. Or, the donate your boat place installed it because the boat had no hatchboards when it was acquired ...perhaps the boat's donor sold a few parts before donating. Sorry, that's not much help, but it's fun to speculate.

very interesting... I should see if i can find the

previous owner. I would be interesting to find out who and where it was made. Your rite, tho, it is kind of a pain to store. If I go out I usually have the table down in the cabin and I just lay it there. Hardly have the boat out so no reason to leave it in place. Whoever made it did a great job. Looks like its a manufactured item..

Replace with plastic

If you do replace the boars with a more traditional setup I would recommend using the plastic parts from Catalina Direct. Less expensive than teak and so much easier to maintain. Since you don't have teak now you wont miss the look.
