hatch woes

Last month I purchased a 1989 HR 352. She's a gorgeous vessel and I'm really excited about the prospect of some serious Pacific Northwest Cruising with her and my family. After showing the boat to my older brother, I asked him to close the saloon hatch. He neglected to release the black retaining slider and bent both the rail and, worse, the main hatch hinge. To cap it off, when attempting to straighten the now bent port hinge, it snapped in half. There are important lessons about older brothers here, I'm sure, but my more immediate concern is whether anyone else has experienced this, and how to proceed. Does HR still stock the hinges? Does the repair require removal, rebedding and reinstallation of the inner hatch flange? After 17 years, are these hinges suffering from metal fatigue? Thanks to any and all for your input! Ken "Dovekie" HR 352
