I have found that having a hatch tent for a boat is really nice when you are out cruising. I have made a few in the past and for my other boat.
Usually I make them with a lot of overlap. That way you can have the front hatch open in rainy conditions, even with wind. The benefit is ventilation on a warm day. It is also nice when it is sunny to keep heat out of the boat.
Today I started fabricating a new hatch tent for the Compac 23. I did it blind, not being near the boat. I am hoping that this tent works and I don't have to mess with it much but it was a cheap project.
I think that it may be a little big. Who knows, but it is about 45" wide (A frame type tent) and about 46" long. There is a cut out in the back that is about 3" wide and 4" long, rounded, as to go around the mast. It is a half moon so it will go about 2/3 the way around and then some cord will attach above the sail cover area to keep the high end up on the rear. The front has 3 loops, one in the middle and two on the sides. The front loop goes to the furled jib with a cord to keep the front high end up. The back and front sides will tie off somewhere on the deck (shrouds and front pulpit bottom).
Anyway, with those dimensions, who thinks that it will fit?
Also, I used Duck fabric and then used a whole can of Scotchguard on it. I didn't have any sunbrella sitting around and that stuff is crazy expensive these days. I wonder if that will waterproof it. Any thoughts?
