I just replace my forward Lense
I just replaced the lense in my forward hatch on my 88 Legend 37. There is a serial number on the hatch; mine began with 87 which denotes the year of manufacture. Unfortunately, their records don't go back that far and they will require you to give them measurements of the hatch. They asked me the following: 1. Size of Frame (measure the frame OD deminsions as it sits on the boat. 2. is the frame of the lense extruded or cast. Mine was extruded. 3. How high does the hatch sit above the deck. 4. What is the thickness of the lense. I took a handle off to measure. With all the measurements I gave them they got the size wrong the first time around. Don't take the old lense out until you are sure it is the correct size. They will sell you a tube of caucking material (black) with the lense, good idea since this is the only brand they recommend. Make sure you ask them to send you installation instuctions with the lense.I also replace my hatch seals at the same time. They really beefed up the seals from the original. You will need to have them send you plastic washers that will adjust the handles to make contact with the frame for locking the hatch. As I mentioned they send me the wrong size and I took the old lense out that was also broken. I tried to cut down the lense that they sent me to make it fit. I did cut it down but didn't take into consideration the handle distance from the frame. I called Pompanette back and they had me send in the old broken lense and they cut a new lense exactly to size at no additional cost to me.I couldn't take off the hatch from the frame due to a striped screw so I installed the lense in place. With the new seals I had to use clamps to keep the lense in place. I would highly recommend that you remove the hatch from the frame to install it. It will be much easier. Also follow the directions regarding putting masking take on the frame so that it will be easy to remove any excess caucking. Give the caucking at least 24 hours to set before you replace the hatch onto the boat.I am a little long winded but hopefully you can learn from my experience.Good Luck.
