Hatch Latch

Hi all,

My 73 O'day 22 did not come with a forward hatch cover - finally made one last night. Still need to wet sand and finish it.


The question I have is - what sort of gasket is supposed to be on it and what type of latch? I am missing all of that Any pictures? - I would like some sort of solution that will not allow the hatch to blow away and will be able to close it tightly.

I have a 1980 23' so I cannot offer you much help. I would suggest you search this sight for pictures of your boat. You should not have much trouble. D&R marine is also a great source for parts for O'days of all sizes and years. Very impressed with your fiberglass work. Enjoy the boat.

My 74 22 has the factory latch, a simple hook and eye like a screen door. The hook is attached to the hatch with the eye attached to the frame. Nice and simple with no sharp edges to catch sails or sailors. As to the gasket, self adhesive black closed cell foam such as can be purchased at automotive supply or some hardware stores is what was used. Set hatch in place, measure gap and get some 3/16" or so thicker.
