Folks ,minutes ago I opened a box from Precision in Fla. It contains the new front hatch I ordered to replace an old busted, glazed over plastic hatch that came with the boat purchased last summer. When I picked the box up off the porch, the weight amazed me. WhenI opened it ,I was shocked and pleased to see that this was no way a match to mine, HEAVY plastic frame holding real glass, tinted, It`s bad-to- the-bone!
I have never done this work before, how is this plan?. I had planned to place a strip of 3mVHB tape I had read about attached to the bottom (Flat side )of the frame that sits on the decktop. Same with the inside frame that matches up to it from below. I also planned to run a generous bead of 4200 around the frame also, being extra generous at all bolthole locations. SS machine screws through the frame, use washers and cap nuts on inside to minimize bleeding head wounds. Brilliant, right? Right?
Having never yet seen aforementioned 3m tape, is it so thick that it mite make flange ride up above deck, or is it thin and malleable and will squash down as screws are titghtened ??
Incompet, er inquiring mind needs to know. Thanks, David
BTW, I can spell, just can`t type well.....

I had to google the tape and instantly recognised this tape. I installed a fiberglass shower liner this summer with a roll of this. You won't need mechanical fasteners. I used one inch wide tape in long strips. I had to be very careful to get my alignment perfect because this stuff sticks stronger than contact cement. You will need only a thin bead of caulk.

Thanks Ross. The flanges appear to be 3/4 inch wide. I`m thinking I might want maximum 5/8 wide tape. I wonder if it comes in different width`s. I `ll check into that. Thanks for the reply. David

Allso, Ross and All, after I remove the old hatch, I expect to have to clean residue, glue, whatever off of the deck. best cleaning agent without tearing up paint, gelcoat etc.?? Thanks again. David
