Hi All, I've managed to get my Vision home from Ft. lauderdale, fun trip ! I found my forward hatch to leak or rather pour onto teh Vee berth,(great way to awaken for night shift!) and have concluded that all the hinged ports need new hinges, the present ones are all bent up. Anyone know where I can get replacement ones? Would one go to Hunter for them? Thanks! Matt

New Hinges

Hi Matt, I've owned my Vision since 1990, so I've learned a lot about them. As I remember (I'm not at the boat), the hinges are fairly standard, and should be available from West Marine, Boat U/S, or your local marine supply store. Hunter typically buys from an ever changing base of suppliers, and probably doesn't know who supplied the original hinges. They also make many changes to their models, sometimes in midyear, which also makes it harder to keep up with the all the small items that goes into a boat. You will probably need to replace the gasketing material as well. After awhile, it tends to compress until its sealing ability is compromised. Good luck.

Probably Bomar.

Matt: The hatch is probably Bomar. You will need to know the model before they can give you a price and part number. Once you know what hatch you have you can also check with The Thrifty Mariner and see if they have parts or maybe the entire hatch is going to be cheaper (depending on how bad everything really is).

Hunter-Made Hatches

All of the Vision hatches I've seen were made by Hunter. The base is formed into the fiberglass deck structure, including water channels and gasket channel. The hatch "lid" is made of 1/2" smoked plexiglass with rounded, polished edges. The original hatches were locked (dogged) by a stainless hatch latch similar to the Seadog unit on the bottom of page 552 in the 2002 West Marine catalog. These were infuriatingly slow to use, and I changed them all out with Bomar riser arms and Quick Dog assemblies. The original ss hinges were something off the shelf of some marine supplier. I would bet the size and screw pattern can be matched up with something still readily available in the marine market place.

Contact Hunter Marine.

Matt: Based on Mikes recommendation I would contact Hunter and see what they can do for you. Their prices are usually good and if nothing else should be able save you time shopping.
