Thank you for the photos. It looks like a smoked acrylic fore hatch.

Find a local plastics dealer, one who sell acrylic, lean and such. Take it to him and ask the dealer to make a new one.

It looks like there is some kind of reinforcement on the hatch. The plastics dealer may be able to help with that.

Yeah, what @dlochner said. And if they are fiberglass, any auto custom shop will have a fiberglass guy. They can make you one.

Hi Thomas.
You have a variety of options.
1. make a full size replacement from ply wood. (cheapest, quickest and easiest fix)

2. make a two part plywood hatch.

Have something made up in plastic. There are varying types of materials, shapes and prices.

Personally I would avoid anything varnished.

That looks like the vertical hatch board for the companionway. Is it fiberglass or plastic?
There are hinges at the wide end. Probably not a hatch board. There was a period of time back in the 80's where unframed fore hatches were "in". Leave them partially open and step on it and they crack. Been there done that. The reinforcing strips were probably in place to prevent cracking.

Ah yes, I see that now. Also, the narrow edge has a curve. A little hard to see the details in the snow. So, this is an opaque hinged cover for a hatch, not an actual hatch?

Well , my well intentioned information is pretty useless.

The posted photos don't seem to be smoky plastic.
Is that the underside of a anchor well hatch?

It is a hatch over the v-berth.

Is it painted grey or smokey acrylic or something?
Can't make it out.

Here’s an O’Day 23 photo I found on the web. I think it helps clarify what we’re all looking at. It is an actual hatch.

I still can’t tell the material, though.

I’ve seen acrylic guys do some impressive stuff. It looks like you have enough of the existing hatch to give them a template.
If you want or need it made out of fiberglass then I would find a boat yard that had some experience with glass.
If it was my boat (not a yacht) I would probably try a glass repair dyi job first. Just in case it turned out good enough.
If you go the dyi path.check out

At that price, if the replacement from D&R fits, I’d only DIY if that’s how you like to spend your time, and I doubt that you can beat the price & fit farming out a custom job.

For lowest cost, maybe the whole existing damaged hatch can be adhered to a sheet of something suitable cut to the original size and shape.
