I broke one of the locking hatch components and cannot find one anywhere. I contacted Hunter and they said to contact Bomar. No luck at Bomar. I have attached a picture of the part and hopefully someone can direct me to where I can get a replacement.
Thanks

What Did Bomar Say?

However, I'd take it to a good machine shop and have them make a replacement out of aluminum.

Re: What Did Bomar Say?

I sent the actual broken part to Bomar and they could not identify it. They sent the part around to a number of people at Bomar and no one had any knowledge of the part or where one could be located.

Making one out of alumnium is a good idea, I was hoping to find a salvaged one from a boat that has been scrapped. Guess that won't happen.

Have you checked West marine? The admiral broke one on our boat last year. Not quite the same design as yours but it might actually work.

Re: What Did Bomar Say?

You know what? Try Lewmar. The rest of my hatches are Lewmar, so maybe Hunter was wrong in this case. The bad news is that they had a big fire once and lost most of the tooling that pre-dated that. But, it's worth an e-mail anyway.

Does the hatch actually say Bomar on it? That doesn't look like Lewmar hardware to me bit I'm also surprised Bomar couldn't identify it.

No markings on the part. Lewmar just advised me that it is not one of their items. I must say Hunter was nat very responsive in providing information, the guy I talked with was not interested in spending any time researching the part in their acrhives. Does anyone have a contact at Hunter that may be more informative in locating the part number?

I suggest you send them an email. They are normally very helpful with that mode of correspondence.

They're shorthanded, as all builders seem to be these days, and they don't really have much in the way of archives dating back that far. However, if memory serves me, the 33.5 had those hatches "frameless" hatches that consist of an opening in the deck, a lens, and hinges/fasteners. Does your hatch have an aluminum frame?

Could you post a photo of the hatch for us?

I have shots of the hatch from inside the boat but I do not know how to post them to this existing string. Can you guide me on that. Thanks

Yes, as I suspected, see the hatches in this photo? They weren't made by any hatch manufacturer. Hunter (or a subcontractor) would have fabricated the lens, attached the hardware, then bolted it to the hull. Chances are very good whoever made the dogs is long gone.

Your best bet is having a plastics shop duplicate the lens, then purchase new hardware for it. If you lie, send me an email at phil at sailboatowners dot com. If you can provide measurements we can do this for you.

I think that this is Lewmar stuff. I have an email at home that may have some of the information that you need. I will try to get it to you later today.

This is the same stuff that I have on my Hunter Vision 36.

There's too much 'stuff' to think it wasn't made by some hatch supplier. The interior bezel is just like the Lewmar-branded interior opening hatches and the hardware is suspiciously like it too. Somebody made 'em and I'd bet it wasn't Hunter nor a non-hatch supplier. However, that may all be mute since whomever it was is, as Phil says, long gone. So, maybe the best shot is to have Phil's folks wrestle with this a bit and see what solution they can come up with, or if the hatch itself is OK, get a new handle fabricated.

So, is the hatch in question the one attached to my post? That looks like Lewmar hardware, after all. Can you confirm I'm looking at the correct hatch? If so, let me do some research and I'll get back to you.

I did not find the link that I thought I had. I will look again.

I think that these were Lewmar Concept Hatches (frameless).
