I moved here from Edmonton 20 years ago. Does John have a brother called Rick that went to Ross Sheppard? Monty Miller

Yes, the JD who I am referring to has an older brother Rick. Don't know which school he attended My son Dave Brown (school Queen E) & I know John. Dave thinks he is in Oregon. I tried to search an email address for you & JD on the Owner Directory. Neither of you show up on the registry. You could email me. Search the Owner Directory for boat name "Powigs" Regards Bob B.

That's not me

I'm from the Washington DC area, learned to sail on the South River, frequented the Annapolis area races, and spend alot of time around Baltimore now with a number of 'good old boats'. I'm in the Macgregor directory with a V-222 named Lyra and on the Cal email list with a Cal 2-29 named Kefi. Sorry, hope you find your friend.

Interesting modification for hatch boards

When I bought my Hunter 22 I noticed that my hatch boards had an interesting modification. They had the middle of them cut out and there was screen there. Then a piece was put over that that hinged open. In other words, even when it is raining I can open the hatchboard like a window and rain doesn't come in. If anyone is interested, I can get a digital picture and send it to you. This is a great addition to the boat.

Try this site

I have thought about using a wood called Iroko for hatch cover. I ordered and worked with a small craft package. This Iroko is heavy like oak and will have to be milled since it comes in 1/2" thickness but the usage is for marine work. They also have teak on this site.

Thanks for responding. I knew it was a long shot that you would be the JD from Edmonton. And yet Monty Miller from Lake Travis knows JD's brother! It is a very small world that we live in. Monty Miller. Don't know if you keep in contact with anyone back in Edmtn but the JD we know is now a medical doctor. Back in 1991, he was giving me some instruction. We were in a big wind, broached, sails flat in the water, no fun! Monty, so you are now a Texan, you must miss the good beer!!! Regards, Bob B. (C22)

Thanks for your response. I couldn't get the owner's search on sailboatowners.com to work. Maybe its difficult because you are in a Catalina world. I didn't know Rick very well but I remember his name because he was a nice person. He may not remember me. You can buy Molsons down here but it tastes skunky and not very fresh like it has been on the shelf too long. American, Mexican and Carribean beers are great because you can sip them all day long when it is 100 degrees and still function(sail). You couldn't do that with Canadian beer without some serious practice! Cheers, Monty
