I have a C-27. The VEE birth is the most out of the way place without having to remove cushions. I can lay them out individually without them scraping each other. The fabric of the cushions offer enough friction that they do not slide around when under way.
I also have a C27, and a PO had made a very nice cradle with three felt-lined slots that fits in the lazerette. My nicely varnished hatchboards ride comfortable there, with still plenty of room for spare diesel fuel tank and other storage.
