Hey guys,I trailer-sailed my 170 yesterday in our usual Florida lake and blissfully forgot to clamp on the insurance policy: the outboard kicker. Needless to say the wind completely died two hours into the outing-- the water was glass-- and ghosting home would have taken 3 hours, into twilight. So I got out of the boat, off the stern and kicked home-- like the boat was my giant kickboard! Sails still fully flying, drawing NO wind. The scene was more amusing than anything, but the strangest thing was that not one boat seeing me (comically) kicking the boat home stopped to even ask if I was OK/needed a tow/needed a cold one. Now of course having an ego, I didn't exactly wave frantically for help either but, Where is the love? I was passed by five waterskiers, six jet skis, three pontoon boats and four bass boats. A few things I learned?: Always bring a kicker on a lake where you don't know people who can come tow you in/or where it might get dark before you've ghosted home and; people on Minnesota lakes are far more likely than Florida lake users to make sure you're OK when they see something odd happening. Luckily I kept telling myself the lake's resident alligators only prowl shallow water...only prowl shallow water...(repeat until safely at the ramp).Mike
