@Rick D Just speculating here, but it may take a couple of Rum's or Dark n' Stormy's to loosen the lips.

But....
Not Sink Ships!
_____
The Raymarine remote station .app... lets the Captain watch, at anchor...
1) Radar Guard Zone alarms and target tracking.
2) Anchor drift Alarms
3) Sea State
4) Wind Speed and Direction.
5) AIS signals on collision course
7) Even adjust blu-tooth music volumes.

Not all bad things, while below in the cabin, for a pleasant meal.;)

I have used the Remote Station app, while eating lunch, in the bimini shade, while maintaining AutoPilot course.:pimp:

Jim...

PS: My iPad is same screen size as my RM ... MFD.

That's like many marinas up here - but we're at Dysart's and the wifi is pretty fast.
But for RADAR, you want a reliable connection and the Ethernet connection used by Navico (B&G, Simrad, Lowrance) works really well.the resolution is fantastic and it's really low power.
The newer Zeus systems have wifi to a tablet so you can have a remote.

I don't really know about the tablet stuff - but a modern (digital) radar onto the chart plotter is so much better than the older analog stuff it's amazing.

I was on a delivery from San Francisco down to Dana Point earlier this year and at one night watch I couldn't even see the bow of the boat the fog was so thick. So I was pretty much just watching the radar. Dodged a few boats and the oil platforms were right where they were charted. (As an aside, the feared Point Conception? Was a snooze... absolute glass from Morrow to Long Beach. Motored the whole way.)

Get something that integrates with the chart - AIS would be a major + too.

I’ve heard of that happening. But mostly at marina bars by sailors who spend a lot of time in bars. Most fishermen I’ve met talk about the fear filled nights they spent in that area.

Before you get to Pt. Conception you have to clear Pt. Arguello. And we all know what happens if you dead-recon that in the dark and fog without radar. Right?
