Hello all, I was wondering if anyone else has replaced their original equipment alcohol fired stove-oven unit with a new propane model.
My P.O. had already removed the oven & replaced it with a big refrigerator, which is great except that its 110 volts only. I would like to puchase a new stove for the galley to keep its functionality intact, & relocate the fridge to the right of the Nav. station to get it out of the way. I have seen an inexpensive stove for sale from Bass Pro Shops of all places, that is S.S. & has 2 propane burners & an oven for around $350. This is about half the price of a Seaward or Origo stove that go for around $800. I would have to find a place to install the propane tank as well; presumably on the stern rail. I know that I should also invest in a cold plate 12 volt cooler for the ice box, but that is a project for another day. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I removed my old stove/oven and installed a Norcold rv 2 way 12v 110v fridge and anstalled a three burner lpg stove on top and it fit perfect with counter height no mods nothing only took 2 hours to fit and for a bonus we ended up with storage space beside the fridge ...3 burner lpg stove tops can usually be bought as takes outs at an rv shop for less than a hundred bucks and I purchased my fridge through Craigslist it runs great and only cost 300 bucks and it runs great when plugged in and through its own invertor from 12 and on all weekends we have yet to run out of battery power {even though I have to much battery power}

Say, to Lost Parent: Do you have any pics of your modifications? Pictures are always worth a thousand words as they say.

You can PM me anytime .
I work in a rv shop so I know what things are worth and what can be done in small spaces as on boats

2.7 cubic foot retails for 1000 bucks in Canada but I would check out Ebay or craigslist as a lot of people upgrade there van or tent trailer to 3 cubic foot.
You can probably buy 3 used fridges for the cost of one new one .
Mine has been running consantly for the past year as we always leave food on the boat.
You need a slide in 3 burner suburban stove top fits great

You seem to have a number of options.

1. Keep the fridge and put a stove on top. Advantage: simplest Disadv.: still no DC fridge

2. Swap the fridge out to a 12V (or a combo 12V/120V) and build the stove on top.

3. Move or replace the fridge and build either a stove on top with storage below, or get a full stove/oven combo (regardless of where you buy the stove/oven combo).

4. Stove and microwave. You have to decide if a microwave is right for you, same as the 120V only fridge. Once you get used to a microwave on board, AND if you anchor out, you'll miss it a LOT unless you have an inverter AND A BIG ENOUGH HOUSE BANK to handle the use.

I've never felt the need for more than two burners on a boat stove. Why? 'Cuz you really can't use more than two burners unless ya have incredibly small pots or pans. Others swear by 'em. Go figger.

Only YOU can tell if you "need" an oven. We rarely use ours, but, boy, when my friend Dave made scones and muffins for breakfast, it sure came in handy! I'm still searchin' for that small turkey for Thanksgiving!!!

Have you looked at the C30 Association website? I would be surprised if they don't have something along these lines.

Propane tanks? Yes, off the stern works, I have a friend with a Pearson 37 who did just that, two small tanks IIRC in a starboard holder that he made up. Two tanks, even if they're smaller, appeal to me more than one big one, 'cuz the fuel always runs out when you're using the stove, right? If you go that route, make sure you SEAL where the line comes through into the boat.

Good luck, happy cooling and eating.

Thanks for the info Stu. I actually bought a new stern mounted propane grill on sale at WM last fall. My old one decided to loose its lid over the stern along with the burner that it was attached to. Ouch! Its Davy Jone's grill now. I figure that we only grill/cook in the summer months & better to keep all that heat & fumes out of the cabin. Plus I don't have to worry about propane gas migrating to the bilge. I did wind up buying a small microwave & toaster oven (& coffee maker & blender....) tucked away beside the icebox. The C 30 galley has an amazing amount of space, knooks & crannies for storage for a 30 footer. My old S 2 couldn't hold half the stuff the C 30 can. But maybe that's my problem, too much stuff!
