generic auto electric fuel pump? I have an SB8 Yanmar single lunger. If you have used an electric type, what psi/gpm/gph did you use?

Fuel Pump

Not a Yanmar, but a 14hp Universal. A 2.5psi pump from NAPA should do the trick. About $35.

Pethia,

If you convert to an electric pump, make a blanking plate for the old mechanical pump. Remove the mech pump and run the hose directly to the filter housing. The mechanical pump has check valves and a rubber diaphram that can fail anyway. If the diaphram fails, your crank case fills with diesel and you can get a runaway engine. A new lift pump is only about $65.00 and will last 10+ years Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, GA

Pat, would you recommend replacing the

original yanmar mechanical or going with the generic electric available at NAPA?

Either way....

I like the original, partly because of my relationship with Yanmar. Either way it will work, the idea is to supply low pressure fuel thru the filter to the high pressure injector pump. I could see a surveyer in the future having a fit over a non "original" adaptaion. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, GA
