Folks, as a dealer in North Carolina for many years with boats in the water down at the coast with my main facility inland, I had to worry what I would do with them in the event of hurricanes. First, they would be hauled out or go to a hurricane hole based on local knowledge. That included anchoring based on local experience and not weekend warrior out of area experience in placed to include the Pamlico and never once lost a boat but very close once with me on board as the storm came up and the fellow who promised to pick me up never did from that boat. Yes I survived watching my boat being thrashed about during the night. The anchors held. Preplanning is good but a fast moving storm, sometimes we cannot know what mother nature will do.
However, there are storms you think are not coming yet turn or pick up steam. If you do not have time, then worry about your loved ones and yourself as life cannot be replaced. Then think of the inevitable but who would have thought Houston would have gotten over 50 inches of rain too. Again life has to be considered first. Better to get out of harms way and then rebuild. Although it is a major disaster of proportions, it has and is bringing people together and in that region, politics and those who wish to do the politico cartoons, well that went by the wayside bringing many to help others.
Allan12210, I am gracious that you mentioned that site as to whom to donate to the relief effort as there are scammers out there already and some being caught. Of course those scammers should be made to walk the plank. So if you do not have time or the plans to get a boat out of harms way, worry about life and then home and then boat in that order. To the rest of us, prayers and donations to those legitimate organizations whose monies collected go to the relief, please donate.
Last year in a flood in West Virginia where many lives were lost, Jim Justice for example, current Governor of West Virginia and owner of the Greenbrier Resort facility opened the Greenbrier to those who lost homes to stay and be fed without any cost and is now responsible for those who lost homes to be able to purchase at unheard prices which would astound you. How in the aftermath folks come together and help others for example Ann and I opened our home up for some to stay for months till they could get their lives together. Those who pitch in regardless if donating monies or whatever, it is good to see folks coming together helping others. Again Allan12250, thank you for that link.
