Is to begin in 90 minutes. As I was leaving for work at 8 am, I saw a few sailors speeding into the marina and running to their boat. I guess they overslept. Good thing they didn't forget the beer (I saw one carrying a case of Bud if you call that beer) because the winds are going to be aft and below 10 knots true decreasing as the day turns into night. It's going to be a putt putt race with not much wave action as they are sailing near the lee shore. Many stories will be told during this race as the sailors will be bored. Many will argue on the course they should take and the GPSs will be hard at work calculating the VMG. I can envision lots of boats sailing neck and neck the first half of the course and lots of beer drank and lots of words yelled at competitor boats. In a way, this would be an interesting race to be a part of just to see how it panned out. How many would just sit back and relax in the mellow winds and sunshine and how many would be actively working hard to gain a few seconds on the next guy. If only they had a webcam for us who couldn't get away from work to watch.

Sounds like fun!

I was in Seabrook checking on my boat this morning around 11 am and the were all gone. I wish I could have joined them. Sounds like fun! My Hunter 28.5 and I just haven't made it past day sailing around Galveston bay yet. Mike F.

Wish I was there

I wish I was there. I hope to go next year. We did do our own Harvest Moon sail last night on Lake Travis. The moon was huge. Hope the people in the Harvest Moon run have more wind than we had here last night.

Lake Travis Sailing?

JeffC, I just bought my first sailboat and live in Houston, but want to sail lake Travis because I went to school at UT and remember how nice it is. It's been years since I've been to Austin, but I really want to take the family there and overnight on the lake. Could you please recommend a boat ramp/launch (with good water depth) and a marina with transient slips to overnight at? I'm looking for one with restaurants, showers and other niceties for my wife and kids. Kevin B.

Lake Travis

Kevin, Hope you don't mind if I throw in my 2-cents. Only one ramp is still open at Lake Travis - the one next to Mansfield Dam. Everything else is dried up from what I've been told. My Catalina is at Commanders Point, so I have to say I think it's the Best Marina - all sailboats and a great group of owners who are always there on the weekends! There is water, power, pump-out, diesel, bathrooms and showers. No place to eat, but you cannot have everything. Second best for me would be Yacht Harbor. Lots of boats and many stinkpots (also known as powerboats). Aunt Tilly's is there with good food and a bar. Even bands on the weekends. Hope you have fun! Cheers. P.S. And pray for rain!!!!
