Harken unit 00 furler pin substitution

I had to de-rig my P-23 for some repairs and misplaced my forestay pin - it's a special 2-part pin for a Harken furler unit 00... Have no time to order a 31 dollar part on time - have to go sailing - has anibody ever substituted that pin with just a 5/16 bolt??? I gues, eventually, I have to get an original pin...but a bolt should be good enough for a week or so....what do you think???

$30+ bucks seems awfully dear for a SS pin, even if it IS a marine goodie.
Check out Annapolis Performance Sailing www.apsltd.com They're good people.
On pg. 123 of their '09 Catalog there's some SS RIGGING PINS, with diameters ranging from 1/4 to 5/8 in., lengths fro 1-1/2 to 3-5/8 in. Maybe you'll find what you need.

If the forestay pin is 5/16 a ss 5/16 bolt and self locking ss nut will work just fine. Make sure the shoulder of the bolt extends all the way through the hole so you have the full strength of the bolt working for you. I used bolts for all the rigging on my 27 and I am useing bolts on the rigging of my 216.
