Adding a furling unit to our Hunter 31. Which do you prefer and why? Harken or Profurl? Thanks, Rob

Go Profurl

Rob, I was faced with the same question on our last boat. I went with Profurl and was very pleased. That boat was a J41 with a huge genoa so it was frequently tested when we raced. We installed the unit ourselves. Our present 376 has a Profurl from the factory and it also works well.

Go with Spin-tec

Check out the Spin-tec units that are sold on this website. Excellent customer support and a very robust unit for your size boat. These are simple (no bearings) units that are suited for 50+ ft boats. They are also close to 1/2 the price.

Fellas.....

I don't think I can go wrong with either one but I was hoping someone would have experience with both and could offer some advice. I just sailed a 65' Cat for a week with a profurl and it seemed to work well. I have not had the chance to try a Harken but the construction looks good and people seem to likke them. as far as Spin Tec it always seems like they are recommended only on this site because they are sold here and usually in life you get what you pay for. I am not so sure not having bearings is a plus but I have never tried one.
