I'm going to replace the ancient Harken mainsail block on my 1984 O'Day Daysailer but I'm concerned about anchoring the base of my new Garhauser swiveling system on my centerboard trunk. I haven't removed the existing block system yet (we've had recent snow up here so there's no real hurry at this point!!) but I'm concerned about how to anchor the four screws of the new block into fiberglass. There's no way to bolt to a plate underneath. Any suggestions?

The original mounting plate for the mainsheet block was either bolted to a metal plate imbedded in the fiberglass or more likely, the fiberglass was just drilled and tapped. The glass seems to be thick enough at that point to allow this. I've removed the plate fro mthe CB trunk on my 1979 DS II a few times for cleaning and the screws can out fine and threaded back in fine. Does the new Garhauer setup have the same hole pattern? If so, just screw it on in place of the old one (mine is a Schafer), if not you will need to fill in the old holes and redrill and tap for the new screws. I'd suggest a call to Rudy at D&R for info on doing this. (508) 644-3001

Thanks for the reply and advice. I'm going to do exactly as you suggest - as soon as the weather permits.
