Oh man, that brings back memories. I haven't been ice boating in a few years but I used to. I had a friend who lived on a small lake here in Minnesota. On winter nights when the wind was blowing we'd go out to his house in ski bibs, down parkas, snowmobile boots and gloves and a motorcycle helmet. Doug would put a lantern on shore and then whoever showed up took turns with the boats. It was an amazing experience. Flat on your back, your ass about 3 inches off the ice, pitch dark-only the onshore lantern for reference and flying along at 20-30 miles an hour (the DN's in the film can do well over 50mph). The blades kicking up ice shards that pepper your helmet, the sound of the wind screaming past your head and then throwing the tiller over and feeling that sled slew around and then trimming hard and taking off again and flying down the lake, in the dark and hearing someone screaming and realizing it's you because it is just the best feeling (well okay almost the best-definately in the top 3 I think) in the whole freaking world.
