I sailing to in Bellport Bay LI on Sunday in about 15knts breeze. My O'day 272 was flying the full 135 genny and mainsail so we we're heeled over pretty far. Twice when I attempted to start the Westerbeke 10-2 diesel after a long leg it fired but seemed not to be getting any fuel. After about 1min of cranking it finally started but could not rev above idle for another 30 seconds. After that the engine ran fine I estimate the tank to be about 1/2 full. Tank was drained and flushed and the filters changed last summer. Heading out to Block Island next week. Should I worry? Rich

Rich,

Did you try to start the engine while heeling? if not I would change the fuel filters before setting out for Block cause the last thing you need is having engine trouble while tring to get through the current at Montauk or getting out of the inlet. BTW I was planning to sail to Bellport after a night at Atlantique on Sunday but had to stick around close to Bay Shore and the sailing/wheather was one of the best this season
