Hello All! I am thinking on outfitting my 1992 Hunter 30 with a full hard dodger, not just the top part and soft sunbrella with plastic windows, but a full hard dodger with Lexan or acrylic windows. Has anybody done that - likes , dislikes, comments, pictures... Thank you I hope, that this will extend my saling season here in Canada, where we get six months of sailing out of the year (if we are lucky !) All comments are greatly appreciated !!! ..sunny south - oh, I am jealous... Andre _/)

Resale Considerations and Alternatives

Most of them I have seen are terrible, and a real drag on resale value. Those professionally designed and executed (darn few of them) blend well into the deckhouse and, in your area, may be an asset (if not more resale dollars). I would consider rather one of the Wavestopper type units that would provide what you want with less impact and maybe less hassle. See the link. FWIW

Why?

Andre: Why are you thinking about all Lexan? It is very heavy and probably very expensive (even if you are doing it yourself). Sunbrella provides a very good dodger and will last for many years. If you may a complete cover for the entire dodger, you can probably expect to get 8 - 10 years without any major repairs (maybe some restitching). We made our dodger so the windows all zip out. We store them in a bag with terry cloth dividers to prevent them from getting damaged when not installed. Ours has been installed 8 years and spends every winter & summer on the boat. It has never been removed or repaired (other than some snaps). I just got a quote on a Hard Dodger (top only) for our new HV'36 and it was almost 50% more expensive for just the hard top.
