Again... on my 1974 H25. Is the entire vessel balsa core or just the topsides. I'm hoping that the hull is solid laminate. I'd like to install a depthsounder transducer to the hull without through-hull drilling by fitting a PVC pipe to the hull, filling it with water and securing the transducer.

Look back through the archives. There are many ways to install a depthfinder without drilling and many ways to test it's function before permanent installation. I believe the post was within the last month. If you don't find it let us know. r.w.landau

No coring in hull

There is no coring in the hull, its 100% fibreglass.

Transducer mounting.

I mounted a "shoot through" transducer last year and is here is how I did it. First, to test to see if the transducer will function in the location you have selected. Goop vaseline on the bottom of the puck and slowly press and twist until it starts to read. Now that you know the transducer will work in this section of the hull, clean it very well with acetone. It can be permanently mounted using epoxy, or not so permanetly using a thick glob of silicone. The trick to getting a good reading is no air bubbles between the puck and the hull, so twist as you apply pressure. Hope this helps. Bob S/V Lady Di II P.S. I might be wrong, but I think most Hunters are only solid fiberglass below the waterline.
