Hard Bimini

We have a Pearson 323 that we'd like to use for an extended cruise. Solar panels are being considered for energy demands but there isn't a good place for large panels. I have seen hard bimini's and though some were ugly they seem like a good place for solar panels and with a raised edge and plumbing could be used to collect rain water for washing or maybe even drinking. Anyone have experience, advice or opinions??? My thoughts on a bimini is that it would usually have full sun and the panels wouldn't get stepped on etc. Placing panels on the foredeck they would be walked on and that is where we plan to store the dingy. Also when sailing the foredeck is often shaded. Flexible panels on the cloth bimini is a thought but they seem less durable and more expensive than the rigid panels. We are thinking 2-4 80 watt panels which might be enough to allow us to use the refrigerator which would be great. Ice cold beer and fresh meat/fish would add a lot to a cruise.
