Hank On Jib

Good Morning,I'm wondering if any of you have a hank on jib that you are no longer using because you've converted to a roller furling. I'm in the US and am willing to pay shipping plus a fair price. I'm also open to suggestions about the best place to obtain a new one. I'm assuming the forestay length is the same for all series?Fair winds,Bruce BergmanS/v Cygnet#169

This is where I bought most of my sail making equipment and have bought a sail kit (they cut and provide you with all pieces and parts for you to stitch together), although not cheap, the quality ends up being fairly high. Sailrite - Fabric, Canvas, and Sewing Machines Since 1969 you are looking for cheap, buy the sail. If you are looking to be self sufficient buy the parts. all the tools will probably send you back about $700 at least possibly $2000 if you are not careful or even more if you decide to do a class on sail making.Any hank on Jib from a 26 to 27 footer will do, the lenght of the forestay is the only problem. Bruce, Where are you at? I may have something that will work for you. You might also consider shops that sell second hand sails. I used a Catalina 25 mainsail for a while and it was a very good fit. I presume the jibs would be usable also. Walt, S/V Lyric #120 From: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comTo: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Mon, 30 Jun 2014 07:29:51 -0700Subject: [AlbinVega] Hank On Jib

Walt,I'm very close to San Diego. Someone else told me they used Catalina 25 sails. I forget the production sailmaker they used. To: albinvega@yahoogroups.comFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Tue, 1 Jul 2014 02:24:40 +0000Subject: RE: [AlbinVega] Hank On Jib

I have a synthetic? jib that came with Cygnet and the window blew out in it. I'm not sure if is is worth repairing? I've found a production sail for a Catalina 25 on North Sail site for $540. plus shipping. Dimensions are: Cloth Wt.:6ozLuff:27.16Leech:24.58Foot:12.82L/P:11.5Any advice from you more experienced salts? I'm still looking to find a used hank on.To: albinvega@yahoogroups.comFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Tue, 1 Jul 2014 02:24:40 +0000Subject: RE: [AlbinVega] Hank On Jib

Roger,Thanks, I'm ok at doing maintenance, but I'm not a craftsman as many of you are. I'm closer to the end of my sailing career than the beginning otherwise I might be tempted. Try looking on ebay and craigslist. I just bought a symetrical spinnaker two weeks ago, very nice, almost new, beautiful, at a fantastic value.... Search for craigslist search engine and you can see ads from all over the USA. I also bought a brand new, 9 month old Betamarine 14 as well. There are bargains to be had you just need to find them....Sent from my iPad

Bruce, For a while I owned two Vegas. Lyric and Sonia which I renamed Oops. I bought her as salvage after she was run over by a sport fishing boat going at a high rate of speed. I got a ton of good stuff of her. Not much left but there is a pair of bronze chocks or fairleads and a jib in a Vega bag marked number1 jib. I've never flown it. It has bronze hanks, some rust spots and corrosion at the cringles. I'll measure the luff, leech and foot today and let you know. Lyric is a series 1 and Oops was a series 2. One of the differences was the series 2 mast was about a foot taller. I did swap masts. The luff on the jib might be a bit long for a series 1. Where at in San Diego? I used to live Alpine and Judy worked at the West Marine in San Diego. Hi Bruce, I lived on Lyric in Redwood City on the San Francisco bay. I met Judy when she was working for West Marine at store #1 in Palo Alto. We took Lyric to Mexico in 1998 and stopped for a few weeks in San Diego. We left Lyric in 2000 on the hard in San Carlos, Mexico. We lived for about a year in the San Diego area afterwards and then moved to Crescent City California (known for its history of Tsunamis). Lyric was in our backyard on a trailer when the last one hit and is now in the marina in Brookings Oregon. Anyway about the sail. This is the first time I've measured it and I'm thinking it might be a Yankee. The clew is cut pretty high. I've never flown it, in fact this is the first time it's been out of the bag since I've had it.Luff is 23'4"Leech is 18'6"Foot 10' One of the hanks needs to be replaced. The cringles at the head and tack are pretty corroded and have been modified at some time in the past with bronze thimbles. It looks to have been a professional job. There are a few rust spots on the sail. It looks to be serviceable but I don't think you would want to use it as a light air sail. If you are still interested let me know.I don't know too much about the Series 3 boats. Walt/Bruce,I'm just down the road from you in Riverside. There is a place in Newport Beach called Minneys and they sell all types of used marine gear. They have a large supply of sails in all types of condition. A friend of mine found a spinnaker there and with a minor alteration worked perfectly for his boat. They have a website http://minneysyachtsurplus.com/ where you can take a look at what they have.Rics/v Blue Max#2692 www.ric-maxfield.net

Walt,    You are in Brookings, and you have a Albin Vega? I have an Albin Vega as well and have never had her in the water yet. In fact, I have never even sailed on an Albin Vega…I am blaming Chuck for this one LeaLea. I watched his videos and the next thing I know, I am off to Texas to bring an Albin Vega home. And to go one more step, I have never stepped foot on a sail boat…lol. Now maybe I should be calling Dr. Phil and working out some issues?  So Walt, if you find the need for some company one of these weekends and feel like explaining every move on how to sail the Albin Vega…which is sitting in my shop getting a complete make over, give me a call.Larry WillsSV Lily Two V-2761Sent from Windows MailFrom: n4lbl alan.schulman@... This is the first time I\'ve measured it and I\'m thinking it might be a Yankee. The clew is cut pretty high. I\'ve never flown it, in fact this is the first time it\'s been out of the bag since I\'ve had it.Luff is 23\'4"Leech is 18\'6"Foot 10\' One of the hanks needs to be replaced. The cringles at the head and tack are pretty corroded and have been modified at some time in the past with bronze thimbles. It looks to have been a professional job. There are a few rust spots on the sail. It looks to be serviceable but I don\'t think you would want to use it as a light air sail. David, I would suggest doing regular on line searches. Watching the magazine listings (also usually available on line) can be helpful. E-bay and Craig\'s list occasionally have listing. Lastly, continue to watch this group. Members will sometimes post if they know of a Vega for sale or if they are selling their own. I looked at Sail Magazine and found 3 listings for Albins, 2 Ballads and a Scampi. Good Luck with your search. They are great boats.                                                                                                                 Walt To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Sat, 16 Aug 2014 15:42:29 -0500Subject: RE: [AlbinVega] Hank On Jib, Larry
