hank on jib

I'm going to ask a lazy sailing question. I just got these two used 150 jibs (one mylar) and they are both hank ons.

I've got an non-functioning roller furler on my forestay and end up raising the roller furler jib up every time anyway.

I'm going sailing Wednesday (eat your hearts out...74 degrees and 12-18 knot forecast).

I want to try the "new" sails out.

Is there any "cheat" to using the hank on jibs with the roller furler? Besides taking all the extrusions off the forestay? I anticipate doing this anyway...but see it being a pain in the ####.

If the furler doesn't work, why don't you just remove it? Does it have have a plastic luff that slides over your fore stay? If so, just use your Jib halyard for a temporary fore stay, loosen your rigging particularly your backstay, and remove your roller furler with luff, and reattach the stay to your bow plate. You may need to extend the Fore stay a little by adding one or two connecting links. Try just loosening your backstay first before you touch the other stays. Putting slack in your backstay may put enough slack in your fore stay to allow you to remove the rigging pin that holds the drum. I never have to touch my side stays to attach or remove my furler, on my back stay, but we have two different boats. A roller furler on a sailboat is no good unless it works.
