Hanging out waiting for Earl

So far so good. Took the sails off our 9.2A last night, added a third pendant to the mooring as a back up, battened down the hatches, snugged up the rigging and now just waiting on Earl. Looks like he is going a bit east and Triple Play will not see more than 45 knots and some rain. Fingers crossed.

P.S. It really sucked watching weather reports all week trying to figure out if I should pull the boat.

Hope it worked out, Bob. Just got back from the boat. Too much traffic this weekend to relax.
I had gone down Thursday evening to spiff up the mooring lines with some chafe gear & peel off the jib. Since the forecast was pretty solid, I just over-wrapped the main in its cover with an extra line.
On the ground tackle side, I had heard that one of my mooring field neighbors' gear had failed the week before in mild weather and he had to be towed out of the mud in a cove across the river. Lucky drift for him!
So I happened to have a short piece of chain in the truck and picked up two shackles on the way down. I shackled the chain to the eyes on either end of the mooring ball & wired them in. In the dark, of course.
Guess what I found on Saturday morning? An upside down mooring ball with the stub end of the rod that used to be swaged into the bottom swivel eye sticking up out of the water. With my boat still attached, thank goodness. I didn't even bother to tell the marina owner... yet.

It was a miss. I checked the wind reports and Logan Airport at 4am on Sat and the max wind was 25 mph, so no worries. I haven't even gone to the boat to check on her, but I need to so I can get the sails back on her to take my Niece and her newly minted Fiancee out.

Glad to hear that your ounce of prevention proved a pound of cure. That was my reasoning behind stripping my boat down. The worst case was supposed to be 50 mph but there was a 5% chance of "tropical storm" force winds (39-73 mph) and it wasn't worth saving an hours work and risking thousands of dollars worth of sails.

Technically I "own" my mooring I bought used from the local mooring guy. I also pay him $175/year to maintain it. There is definitely a limited lifespan for chain and even the eye on the top of a mushroom mooring. However, I too am at the mercy of my mooring guy who hopefully checks my mooring properly every year. However, he moved my mooring a tad this year and I grounded trying to pick it up this year. Also, he has ignored my repeated requests to change the eye splice on a pendant that is nearly too small for my six inch cleat...so go figure.

I'm not too excited about an eye splice on a cleat for mooring. That's what my marina supplies, but I add a second pendant to tie off on the other cleat. Then I take the tag end and thread it through the cleat legs that the eye splice is on, and tie it off over top.
