I am considering conversion of the hanging locker in my Cat 30 to a shelving system for storage. As a hanging locker it is not very good anyway. Any suggestions?

Good Call

I don't have any creative tips for your but I do like your idea. I am a live aboard on my Cat 30 and am always looking for storage maximizing ideas. I agree that the space does not work well as a "hanging locker". If you just wanted to do something simple you could get some shelf brackets and cheap lumber from a Home Depot or Lowes. Cut it out and adjust the shelves the way you want them. Also consider using that white, rubber coated metal shelving stuff available in similar stores. I'm sure there are better ways of doing it but these may be equally functional. Good luck Kelly

Great Idea

I did the same thing on my 36. Take out the closet pole. Get a few big pieces of cardboard to make templates, and then cut the final shelves from 1/2" plywood. I put in two shelves, roughly dividing the area into thirds. The inboard edges of the shelves can be recessed back a few inches, and you can put small coat hooks just inside the doors so yo can still hang a few items if you want to. If you put a fiddle on the inboard edges, the stuff you put on the shelves will not fall out as easily. Paint them white to reflect more light. Good Luck. Tom soko.
