Roughly Speaking
according to the 98 PHRF handicapping book from USSA, a hunter 30 for spinaker, rates from a fast 174 in Lake Ontario & 177 in New England to a slow 205 in the Northwest area. The bulk of the fleet is about 180-186. Shoal Drafts are showing 180 in South Texas & Mid Atlantic to 201 in Chesapeake & the Gulf. Tall Masts show 168 in Lake Ontario & Lake Michigan to 186 in the Florida Sun Coast. Non Spinaker boats usually get about another 15 to 17 sec. Its all up to your local average wind conditions along with your area PHRF rating handicapper. Fixed & folding props also figure in to it. Usually its based on a folding/feathering prop, so if yours is fixed you should get another 3-6 sec. If you can find out what your wind conditions are then compare them to an area with similar wind you should be able to ascertain a fair rating. Of course it may not be so much as how you compare to other areas but how you compare to the boats in your area, with respect to all of the same boats (including yours) in a similar wind area. Its the difference in rating between your boat and the others that you have to beat. If the 'difference' between your boat and others in your area is much different than the 'difference' of a identical boat like yours and identical other boats in other similar wind areas, then you either have an advantage or disadvantage. Good luck,PJ.PS. Hunters don't point, so dont try to pinch, go for the speed.
