Handy companionway step project for the 22.

Just posting a pic of last weekend's project, a companionway step.
It's pretty simple. A piece of oak board with a notch cut in for the pendant pole. I then measured it to fit and cut a notch in the teak strips that are attached to the seats. The result is a removable, one piece step that fits in like a puzzle (no fasteners). Just sharing.

That's pretty ingenious! There's no limit to the modifications that you can do on these boats. I think I've done about thirty so far and every single one of them were fun projects. Here's a great project, compliments of Colin Jarman on how to make a sail jock. http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/doityourself/sailties/sailties.htm For boats our size you'll need 3/16" Bungee cord. This thing works great, but it can stretch out a little and sag under the boom in time. So what I would suggest is to just run the bungee cords through the two end hooks and tie them off at the goose neck, and the end of the boom. This way, you can take up the slack whenever needed. I used large plastic hooks and cut the keepers off them. I had plenty of stainless steel "C" shaped wire crimps for the Bungee cord. A pair of pliers or channel locks can be used to crimp the wires.
