Does anyone have a source for handsfree VHF or walkie talkie. I've had no luck with the usual marine sources or Radio Shack. I am looking for something to communicate with the admiral when dropping and pulling up the anchor. The dodger makes hand signals problematic. We could use our cellphones while we are in Lake Erie but when we make our annual trek to the North Channel, I'd hae to get a $48 charge everytime we pull into a gunkhole. Too bad about Radio Shack

I bought a set of hands free communicators from Radio Shack about 8 years ago. They were being sold as toys, and are about 2 X 3 inches with an ear-bud. The ear-bud acts as a microphone as well as an earphone (do they call that a bone mic?). This radio is also full duplex, which means that one unit is transmitting on one frequency while receiving on another. This provides no need for push-to-talk and no VOX (voice activated transmit) delay. I remember a funny thing while using these radios for the same purpose. I was at the anchor while my wife was at the wheel. We had visitors aboard, and they didn't know that we were communicating with each other, talking in normal tones. They would relay our conversation by yelling at me on the bow. That's how good they are. I suspect that Radio Shack has discontinued them. Have you tried E-Bay? I can provide a picture if you need one. They weren't nearly as expensive as personal radios with optional headset assemblies.
