This is a bit off topic, but can a handheld GPS such as a Garmin 76xxx be used to accurately test a car speedometer at highway speeds? ...RickM...

It works for me

It should work for you ... IF you are traveling on level terrain. A steep incline could throw it off a little.

works great

as matter of fact you can use it in an airplane just set the setting to show faster speeds and increase the time average to be accurate. At least on my Garmin unit (different model) that works.

I've done this with my G76 and the GPS is usually agrees within 1-2 mph of the car speedometer
