I am considering purchasing a hand held vhf in the medium price range, please forward plus and minuses of the models you have or have tried

The Uniden isn't so bad

I've had my uniden waterproof for about two years now. Only one watt of tx, but that's good for close work. I use it as a back-up now.

Hummmmm

Take a look at the Hummin Bird. WM sells them in the $100 range. One of the guys in our marina has one. They seem to be a very nice unit for a very cheap price.

Waterproof?

Watch the Hummingbirds. Many of them are not waterproof and the guys at a local marine store told me that the low end unit (Yellow unit at about $99) will short out at the site of spray.
