Hand grab in cockpit

Hey friends, look at the picture: I would like to add a hand grab like this white shape I drew since there is no way to stand up safely underway (not the topic of the thread)
1- where could i find this?
2- how could I mount it?

It is a wheel with an undersized hand grab
When sitting at helm you can NOT stand from sitting position without grabbing “something “ unless you are young and strong
The “something “ becomes the wheel, especially underway.
captain and crew always at one point end up grabbing the wheel when moving around or when hilling suddenly

Looks like a simple job to have custom made and welded onto your existing structure.

However, I'd make sure the support system is strong enough to hold that big of a lever....

Is there room to install a traditional pedestal guard at the helm? Sorry, I don't have a photo of mine.

Often the binnacle has something like that to grab. It would normally smaller than you've drawn but similar in shape and made of stainless steel. It is also useful to grab from other locations in the cockpit. In general I think it's physically easier to pull oneself up than to push off a hard surface.
I didn't note any stainless in your photo. If possible post other pics of your binnacle area from different views and levels of zoom so that posters could offer a suggestion.

I think a local stainless steel fabricator could make something to replace or augment what you have.

The desired "grab bar" (to give it a term) is not one I have seen premanufactured and ready to install.

You could make it yourself if you have the tools to bend stainless tubing. Or you could have it fabricated by a metal shop. A bent grab bar could be attached using clamp on fittings much like one sees on bimini frames or have a welder atache it to the existing (small) hand hold. The challenge I see is the strength of the structure would be in pulling against it. If you were standing behind the wheel and grabbing it would provide very little resistance (like grabbing the end of a fulcrum and pushing it up or down with no weight on the end).

LOTS OF DIFFERENT DESIGNS.
They often go all the way to the deck andd have braces to stabilize the grab bar.

This boat has twin helms and the wheel is not mounted to a more common Whitlock or Edson pedestal. The term you are looking for is pedestal guard, however your pedestal may not be built to accept one. So, it will take some engineering and imagination to add a guard. The first thing is to determine what brand of steering gear you have and whether that company has what you are looking for. Contacting Jeanneau or a Jeanneau dealer might be helpful.

Looking at the pedestals at Edson Marine might be helpful in providing ideas. Defender sells a variety of Pedestal Guards.
