I am presently replacing all halyards, sheets, and lines on my 1981 catalina 30 standard rig. My question is on the halyards....The originals are cable to rope and I want to go to rope to rope. Is there any reasson that I cannot go rope to rope? Thanks in advance...bobcat

You probably mean go straight rope halyards?

Yes - the majority of sailors have. Read this link and you will know why.

Mast Head Sheeves

You will need to make sure your masthead sheeves are of the correct width to handle the rope. Rob

Yes you can use rope.

Yes you can use rope but you may find, if you go to big with the line, you'll need to replace the mast head sheaves that were sized for wire. Other than that all line halyards are the preferred method these days with NO meat hooks. Before you waste any money at Worst Marine or any of the other big boat stores give Cajun Trading a call. I buy ALL my running rigging from him. His prices and line quality can't be beat. You'll likely pay 50% of what you had budgeted if you priced your rigging at Worst marine. Phil the owner of this site also has decent prices but can't compete with Cajun.. Cajun Trading Company http://www.cajuntrading.ca/
