Those of you who went to rope with out changing sheaves; What type and size of rope did you use. My rigger is suggesting 3/8" but it seems 5/16 would fit the wire sheaves better. Double braid would seem better for the shaff, but parallel core has higher strength ( especially if you use 5/16)

What boat?

Your post was for "general interest". If you're asking about a 27, I have 5/16 Staset X on my jib halyard and 3/8 Staset on the main. I'd recommend the 5/16 Staset X. The strength of the 2 different sizes and types I'm using is the same, (like 4400 lbs) but the 3/8 creates too much friction in the original sheaves, which are actually OK for wire or rope. The 5/16 is less weight aloft, and lower stretch than the Staset. Both are easy on the hands. I plan to change out the 3/8" on the main when I get frustrated enough with the friction, or when the old line needs replacing.
