While helping raise mast on Tanzer 22 found that the jib at top was wrapping around forestay. No t really halyard wrap. The top swivel has an extesion 90 degrees to forestay about 4 in ches long with a couple of turns at the end we assumed went around forestay. The halyard and forestay exit top of mast very close and the swivel extension holds the luff away from the forestay for furling but when we try to furl the two intertwine and wrap the top of the jib around the first 4 feet of the forestay and it comes to a stop. No manual available and no name on the furler exept " made in England" ....

Had a similar problem with my H33. I had a halyard restrainer installed. The restrainer mounts to the mast. The halyard goes through the restrainer, then connects to the jib. It changes the angle of the halyard and it won't wrap. Works great. I got the restrainer through Hood ($28.00). If you have a good marine store near you they may carry it.

I am not sure what you are trying to describe - but I believe I had the same problem. On only some unexplained conditions when I was trying to roll up the jib - it would roll about 4 turns then it would not go any farther. The halyard would wrap around the forestay. After I read the Staffer 2100 instructions - which was to bring the two rollers closer together by installing the 10" extension that connects to the head of the jib - I no longer have any problem. If you have photos of when it wraps would help us see the problem.

I have attached a couple of pictures showing the halyard retainer. It shortens the effective luff available by a wee bit but does prevent the furler from wrapping the halyard.

Hi, This is a little off topic but has to do with a furling system so here goes, I have an O'Day 25, I put the mast up the other day but while raising the jib up my dual guide auto furler I cannot get the sail to the top of the furler there is something obstructing its 'slide' inside of the guide, it is a self contained furler system so the running end of the halyard will be inside of the other rail. Is there, or does anyone have any ideas of how I could get something up there to scrape out whatever is blocking the sail movement? It is definitely not stuck in a joint or anything like that I can see a dark spot inside of the furler where it is stuck I'm almost certain its mud or hardened dirt or sorts. Any ideas? Other than a long pole with a blade which is kind of what I'm working on now. I also have the Jib Halyard, which is independant of the furler halyard system, I could use that to hoist up the jib/genoa but I don't have a restrainer attached so I believe it will wrap around the furler.

If anyone knows any ways I can fix or circumvent this issue just for this season I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance for any info

Art,

We had the same issue (and many more) the first time we sailed our Lancer 25. The answer is to step the mast and take care of the foil laying down. Stepping isn't that big a deal for a 25 footer. We do it every week. It's also a good idea to get a can of MCLube or silicone or something and spray the foil.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I was really hoping there was a way to avoid that unfortunately I have had to step the mast down once before already this season, like most marina there are very nice and helpful sailors there willing to help I just don't want to bother them again but if that is the only option I will have to do it. We don't have much at our marina for facilities and it can get kinda sloppy there. Guess I can always trick some friends into thinking they're going sailing too.

Well believe it or not, I managed to fix it without taking the mast down. If any of you guys run into some fouling inside of the guides within your auto-furler you can clean them out pretty well with a plumbers pipe snake, worked really well for me and the furler is working fine!
