Halyard winch size question

I am bringing all the mast lines back to the cockpit. I am going to install Garhauer rope clutches and self tailing winches(probably Lewmar) on both sides of the companionway hatch. I have a Strong Track & Slide System on the main, and a Garhauer rigid vang, and a Harken MKII size 1 furler. The mast is 39', and the halyards are 3/8" Sta-Set X. The main is about 200 sq ft, and the genoa is about 320 sq ft. Harken and Lewmar say use 30's, Anderson and Performance Yacht Systems say use 16's. I am wondering if it would be worth while to use #30's, or go with #16's. I will be single handing, or sailing with my wife. I want to size the winches for easy use in heavy weather. What are your thoughts? Pete Albright s/v Nancy Ross

Don't think you can get Andersen 16ST.

Pete: I do not think you can get Andersen 16ST. I think you may also want to consider 2 speed too. The comparable Andersen would be a 28ST. Personally I like the Andersens. As I remember they were also highly rated by Practical Sailor. I am a fan of Garhauer, but do not care for the Clutches. I'd go with the Spinlock XT or XTS

Planning on 2 speed

I'm watching 2 Anderson's on ebay. For the same price as the Lewmar 30's, stainless is the way to go. Clutches may be a later thread.

Can't decide.

My H37C has the portside cabin winch, I think a #16. It was for the mainsheet but I now keep that at the traveller(in cockpit). I even removed the cheek block when I put down new nonskid. So now my cabin roof is completely clear and I really like that. But I have all the pieces/parts to run the lines back, an E-bay two-speed winch(#16), turning blocks, deck organizers, and clutches. I just cannot decide if I want to clutter that deck with all of that. It is rare that I cannot safely go to the mast. I don't even run my staysail sheet back, just go forward to trim. Maybe just the main halyard in case I get surprised by a storm? But why would I?
