Halyard slap

Hi Guys,Fixing to tackle two projects & wanted to run a question or two past thegroup.PRoject #1: Quiet the wires and / or lines inside the mast of my88Hunter 30. Looking at the mast base (deck stepped ) I Can't tellwhere the wires enter the mast - don't know if they are run in a race orare hanging free( I hope not!!!!) Anybody have any suggestions on thebest way to quiet the banging in a rolly anchorage?Project #2: I have a small seep in one or two of my keel bolts - Itried a deep socket of the size I guessed it to be but the stud sticksup too far for the socket to reach the nut - looks to be about 1 1/8 to1 1/4 inch. Anybody know what size these critters are or where I canfind a crows foot this size - sears only had 3/4 inch. OR another ay totighten them.Randys/v CabaretKemah, TX

Randy:I am not sure of the size but you should tighten the keel bolts with a torque wrench. Even if you think that only one is leaking you should tighten all of them. Contact Hunter and see if they have the settings and the tightening pattern.I also think that your halyard are loose inside the mast. The wiring usually is in a race but not the halyards. If they are banging you just need to put more tension on them when you are docked or at an anchorage. I hook mine to the toe rail or the bow pulpit and just crank them down.

I transported my 91 30T and while the mast was off I installed a ST60 wind inst. The wire run down a race on the backside of the mast. Luckly there was a guide line to help run the new wires. The other lines just hang loose. When sleeping on the boat. I make sure the main halyard is attached to the beam toe rail and tight. All other line also tight. I do have an issue with the table counter weight hitting the mast compression pole when the table is down for sleeping. Jim

Inside the Mast

Randy,I own a 88 Hunter 30. In my mast there are two sections of pvc pipe that are split and installed over some internal ridges inside and on the forward side on the mast. One length of PVC goes all the way to the top the other stops just below the steaming light on the front. All wiring is contained in these two sections of PVC. At the deck end they come within about 6 or 8 inches of the mast step. Halyards, topping lift ect. are then free inside of the mast. As others have said tighen them and they usually do not slap.Frank
