My husband and I have purchased a C 22, 1982, in good condition. We are in the process of tightening screws and minor replacement of parts. The boat needs new halyard and jib lines. We would like advise in line size (dia.), fiber content and braid type.

we offer Samson XLS here

http://shop.catalinaowners.com/c22/ I have 3/8 inch on my 1976 C22, 5/16 would be appropriate as well. Sheets are typically 1.5x boat length. We also offer wire/rope halyards if you have a wire sheave at the top of the mast.

For halyards 5/16 "XLS" type of double braid is more than adequate. For sheets you need a size that is comfortable for the hands, but not to large for the winch. 3/8 in double braid (Sta-Set, for example), maybe 7/16. There are some other types of eXtra Low Stretch lines that would also be good for halyards, but are quite expensive, and if you like an eye spliced in for the shackle, they are more difficult to splice in an eye.

Debbie, you have gotten some good advice. I also suggest tht you contact a company named Catalina Direct (www.catalinadirect.com) which sells a wide range of C22 parts. Be sure to buy their C22 parts catalog. It is a great source of information. Have fun with your C22 and... Ignore idiots like JWB!

Other things

Debbie, A good size for a jib sheet is 3/8" It is easy on the hands and is not expensive to buy. Sta-set is as good as any. If you have not done so, I would look and see the condition of the keel bolts( if it is a swing )and the keel cable. We have a 1984, and have replaced most of the equipment over the last three years. Some of it was nessary and some we just wanted. Good luck with the boat, it sails great. Dale
