Halyard Size?

I am not sure of the correct Halyard size for our main halyard and jib halyard. We have a 1979 Hunter 30. I think it is either 3/8 or 1/2. Any help on what size others have replaced with, would be appreciated. Thank you.

3/8 typically

1/2 might be too big, although it might pull up more easily. There was chat about that here last week.

For your own sake...

...I would suggest you read the archives on halyards. There's a lot more to it than a piece of rope to hoist sail.
