I'm getting ready to buy some rope clutches to run my halyards back to the cockpit.

In May I had bought halyards from D&R. Two questions:

1.) What is the size of the halyard from D&R? somebody must know.
2.) Is there enough line length to run it back to cockpit or will I have to buy new halyards?

Sorry...but I'm a 90 minute drive from the boat and it's easier to find the answers here before I buy the rope clutches.

On our Mirage 25 we have 7/16 on both main and jib. A sailing buddy said we could go with 3/8 on jib if we pleased, but I kind of like the extra security. The important thing to look at is the sheaves at the top of your mast. (If you can) Oversizing your line too much can spread the sheaves, causing them to bind. This will make raising your sails oh so much fun!
We're also 90 minutes from our boat :(

Ah.. I just reread your post.

Sorry, I went over the D&R site and I can't see where they say how long the halyards are. I would shoot them an email and ask. My guess is that the premade halyards will be too short to run to the cockpit.

A 3rd question, if you don't mind?

Do you really need clutches on a boat that size? My PO installed them on my Mac 25 along with cam cleats. I only use the cam cleats and theywork just fine. Am I missing something as far as functionality? I posed this question a couple of years ago and never got a real answer
BTW the M25 uses 3/8" both.

Take this opportunity to buy a bolt/screw sizer. These are plastic things that have precisely sized and labled holes and spaces marked off that let you easily measure bolt, screw and line sizes. You can buy a one that is made specifically for sailboats at the Latts and Atts ships store ("Rigger's Gauge") for about $7, or just go to the hardware store and buy a plain one that is just as good for about $2. I use mine all the time to measure lines, bolts, hoses, etc.

List of all O'day recommended halyard and sheet sizes

Sometimes during the recent past, that is this year or last someone posted a copy of a sheet that gave sheet and halyard lengths and size lines. I could not find it. Ask Captain Herring what he did with it in the site make over.
