Aside from the obvious signs of wear (fraying/cracking), is there any "rule of thumb" regarding the replacement of halyard and/or sheets. I'm wondering about the effect of sun and marine enviroment. I'd rather replace these on my terms, rather than dealing with a broken halyard somewhere off the coast of S. Cal. Bob

great guidline

If is not yet frayed and not yet cracked and you think you it will last another season its about time to do it. Halyards and sheets are not really very espensive, so if your asking the question its probably time. A qualified rigger could be called to look it over for you at little cost.

Got mine through Sailnet.com. Saved a bundle

over WM. Take the money that you would save on a rigger and put it towards the sheets. Terry
