I need to replace my spinnacre halyard and am going to bring it out of the mast to be able to "bump" the chute. I Put a hole in the mast today for the exit plate and can't find the spinnaker halyard in there ???????? . There are 3 halyards coming down inside the mast at the rear (Main, Jib, Spare) and a grey plastic tube going down the iniside of the front of the mast, I presume this carries wiring ??? Help, the halyard has gone AWOL ! Any thoughts ??

I really do not understand.

Vic: I really do not understand. The halyards on the H'31 exit at the top and the bottom of the mast. If you have three halyards at the top and three halyards at the bottom why did you need to put a hole in the mast (may have compromised the strength of the mast). There are exit blocks at the bottom for each halyard. When we replace a halyard we just hook a large paper clip to the new halyard and to the old halyard. Then wrap some rigging tape around the lines and pull them through. Normally you cannot even tell when the line is rounding a sheave when pulling the new line.

What Vic is doing is to have the spinnaker halyard exit the mast about 8' above the deck through an exit plate that he is installing in the side of the mast. This will in no way compromise the mast and will allow him to 'bump' the halyard which is a more efficient way of getting the spinnaker up. I have 3 exit slots on each side of my mast (at staggered heights). Vic, if you move the halyard back and forth while looking inside the mast you will see the line that is moving. Do not install the exit plate until you have the halyard exiting the side of the mast. It would also be a good idea to install a cam cleat on the mast about 2 feet below the exit plate to help hold the halyard while you tie it off.

Wiggle

Theres the rub, I can wiggle and see the other 3 halyards but not the one I need. I have even hadf a small mirror in there to see all around the interior of he mast but6 to na avail. I guess I will have to go up the mast and take a look fom the top to see where it goes.
