Halyard rope sizes

I am going to change out my halyards. After reading what Ed posted sometime ago, I would like to go to 3/8" T-900. Is T-900 overkill? My staysail halyard is seized also, so I would like to drop down to 3/8" to clear room in the mast. Do I need the added strength of T-900 if I am going from 7/16" to 3/8"?
Thanks in advance,

Gunni

Hi Gunni, Your link does not work. I have read several others using VPC, it has a breaking strength of 6500 lbs and is a $1.42 right now at defender. Would this be better?

thank you,

Zach;
I switched to 7/16" NER VPC the last halyard change out, very low stretch, like it a lot. Try the vid again, VPC was designed to give the best of low stretch vectran at a good price.

Make sure you mast head sheave will take the larger diameter line. Over size line will not run well in a "to small" sheave

While high tech materials mean that halyards can be smaller diameter and stronger, there is a trade-off with what is comfortable in the hands.
