The jib halyard on my H23 wrapped tightly on my Harken Roller furler this summer, so next spring I plan to install a halyard restrainer. I am looking for the forums conventional wisdom on halyard restrainers on this small a boat. Both Schaefer and Harken make restrainers. It looks like the Schaefer unit would take up less space on my mast. Does anyone have experience with this? Also where is the best place to locate the restrainer on the mast? (ie. 6" below the jib halyard block??) Thinking about when I store the boat for winter, I am somewhat concerned that the restrainer will be in the way of the roller furling unit with the mast down, and the furler lying on the mast. Has anyone with a restrainer had interference problems? Any advise will be appreciated. Bill Leathen - Onalaska WI.

Location is critical - Been there, Done that!

The location of the restrainer is critical. It must be positioned at such a point to create the correct angle for the halyard to pull up on the swivel and to prevent "halyard wrap". Contact the MFG'r for a manual for the furling unit to determine the correct angle.
